Art Supplies: Easels

Should you decide to blow the dust bunnies off your old magazine collection, you have several options for finally getting some use of it. Something I love to do is to use scissors to snip out various sized and colored letters and put them together to form words or sentences. A cool, retro effect can be achieved by combining letters cut from the cover page, various ads, and article titles.

Another way to find good graphics to include in your collages or scrap books is to search in old magazines. Another good idea is to use for backgrounds in a scrapbook is pages from a fashion spread magazine. They truly follow a theme and don’t have too much writing on them. The nice thing about it is that if the image has any writing on it you don’t want you can always put a decoration over it or another picture.

Use Search Engines to find Graphics: This is a really good idea when scrap-booking. I searched Google images for different terms like "baby girl", "it’s a girl" etc, when I started my daughter’s scrapbook. I was able to locate so many great things, and I really saved as well.

Simply run a search through various search engines by using their image tools for any terms that have to do with the project that you are working on. You’ll find plenty of results which you can print out and use in your projects. I’d suggest you only use these graphics for personal purposes though, since some may have copyrights on them. Till they are used within your crafts which are personal, that will not be a problem.

If you don’t have a printer, you can print them out at your local library or school if you attend for a couple cents a sheet. Finding graphics by using alternative sources is much less expensive than getting decals and stickers from hobby shops or art supply stores.

If you are running a bit low on glue, it’s a little-known fact that you can make some yourself! Once you figure out how much glue you will need, mix together one part flour to one part water. Mix it up until it turns into a pasty substance.

This type of glue should be used right after you make it, as it will go moldy if left out and unused. This item is very well suited for paper projects; remember to leave it out to dry completely after use.

You can always add glitter to your paint or glue for an added touch.
