You have a lot of different options for making use of the growing pile of periodicals that you have been routinely stashing below your mattress. Try making quotations or maxims out of letters that you’ve cut from magazines in different sizes, colors and fonts. Combine all cut out letters from the cover page, different ads and article titles to get a cool retro feel.
For incorporating into collages, scrapbooks, or any other visual project using cute pictures and graphic designs you can also look through old magazines. I have developed the habit of decorating my scrapbooks with pages from fashion spreads to serve as the background. They have little to no writing on them since they are always really themed. Unwanted writing can easily be covered with a picture or other design.
A really good idea when scrap-booking is to use Search Engines to find graphics. Using Technology can be great. Like the time I was starting my child’s scrapbook, I used Google images to find images that say "It’s a girl!" and "Baby Girl" and so on. By doing a little searching and looking around I was able to find materials to use and saved a lot.
Using a search engine’s images page can help you find terms that you need for a project that you are working on. You’ll find plenty of results which you can print out and use in your projects. Be careful! Some images may have copyrights on them, so I suggest only using these graphics for personal purposes. As long as they’re used only within your personal crafts, that shouldn’t be a problem.
Your local library can be a good, low cost way to print these out if you don’t have a printer of your own at home. It’s still much cheaper than buying stickers and designs from art supply stores.
If you are running a bit low on glue, it’s a little-known fact that you can make some yourself! Based on the amount of glue required, combine equal parts flour plus water. A pasty substance is the ultimate goal; mix it up until it gets to this consistency.
This type of glue will go moldy if let out and unused and so you should be used right after you make it. After it is used, it is good to left out to dry completely for paper projects.
For a nice touch, add glitter to your glue and use it as paint for decorating items in your scrapbook.
