If you have a large collection of periodicals that have been piling up around your house, there are a variety of different ways to put them to good use. Cutting out letters of varying sizes and colors, and then using them to make phrases or quotes, is something I enjoy doing. You can cut out letters from the cover page, different ads, and article titles.
You can also look through old magazines for cute pictures and graphic designs to incorporate into collages, scrapbooks, or any other visual project. I also like to use the pages from fashion spreads as background pages for my scrapbooks. They have just a little bit of writing on them, or none at all, and you can count on them to be very thematic. The nice thing about it is that if the image has any writing on it you don’t want you can always put a decoration over it or another picture.
When creating your scrap books, you can use internet search engines to find appropriate graphics to include. I searched Google images for different terms like "baby girl", "it’s a girl" etc, when I started my daughter’s scrapbook. By using alternative sources, I found a good many appropriate things and saved money as well.
If you take the time to do different searches on your search engine you can find some designs or ideas for your project. You can get plenty of ideas and materials to use if you print them out. Because some graphics may be copyrighted, it’s a good idea to use anything that you find for personal purposes only. As long as you use them for your individual crafts, this shouldn’t be an issue.
The lack of a printer should not stop you as they are readily available for your use at your local library or school for a small fee. Buying stickers and designs from art supply stores is costlier.
Don’t worry if you don’t have any glue on hand you can always make some. Once you figure out how much glue you will need, mix together one part flour to one part water. Mix it up until it turns into a pasty substance.
Don’t make the glue until you are ready to use it because it will get moldy if left to sit. It’s good for paper projects and should be left out to dry completely after it’s used.
You can always add glitter to glue and then apply it like paint to decorate things.
