As a fan of creating homemade crafts and a devoted scrapbooker, I am all too aware of the expense of buying art supplies from stores at retail prices. This should give you some good ideas for ways to save on art supplies while still maintaining your creative edge.
A: Finally the huge stack of magazines that’s been accumulating under your bed can now be put to use in a lot of different ways. Cutting out different sized and colored letters and making sayings or quotes is a technique I love. To get a cool retro look just cut out letters from different ads, articles and the cover and mix them together.
If you have any old magazines laying around you may find ideas or pictures and graphic designs to make a collage or scrapbook. I also like to use the pages from fashion spreads as background pages for my scrapbooks. These universally possess strong themes, with hardly any (or no) writing. Cut out a figure from a magazine and use it to hide any writing that shows.
A good thing to do is to use an internet search to find ideas for your scrapbook. Using Technology can be great. Like the time I was starting my child’s scrapbook, I used Google images to find images that say "It’s a girl!" and "Baby Girl" and so on. Not only did I find a lot of cute stuff, I also saved a ton of money!
If you take the time to do different searches on your search engine you can find some designs or ideas for your project. Plenty of results which you can print out and use in your projects will be found by you. I’d suggest you only use these graphics for personal purposes though, since some may have copyrights on them. As long as they’re used only within your personal crafts, that shouldn’t be a problem.
The lack of a printer should not stop you as they are readily available for your use at your local library or school for a small fee. It’s still much cheaper than buying stickers and designs from art supply stores.
3. Have you got the glue? It is a hardly known fact that if you don’t have a glue, you might make some! While working on your project, decide how much glue is necessary and mix flour and water in equal measures. Once you’ve reached the consistency of a paste, you can quit mixing it up.
This type of glue should be used right after you make it, as it will go moldy if left out and unused. This item is very well suited for paper projects; remember to leave it out to dry completely after use.
You can always add glitter for a nice touch even if you do have glue and use it as paint to decorate stuff.
4. Homemade Modeling Clay- Some type of modeling clay is quite often a necessary ingredient in many of the unique and interesting crafts available today. The ingredients that you’ve probably already got can make it right in your kitchen instead of splurging on the stuff at the store. Now, combine 1 cup of flour, 1/2 cup of salt, 2 tablespoons of cream of tarter, 1 tablespoon of oil, and 1 cup of water. Cook gently for around 3 minutes after mixing all the ingredients in a large pan. Until you plan to use it, let it cool in the airtight container in the refrigerator. Clay will dry out if you fail to seal the container tightly.
• Supplies are all around you, all you have to do is look around! Everything has a use, and you can make masks with scissors and crayons or markers or use a large pizza box for a collage, decorating it with dried, painted pieces of pasta you glue on.
You will have unlimited options for creative craft use at home by looking for unique items in closets or drawers. There is more than one use for something you may have saved and have never used.
