The cost of purchasing art supplies from retail outlets can be prohibitive for avid scrapbookers and crafters. You can save money on supplies, create unique projects by using the same methods which I have collected together.
• There are a lot of ways you can eventually use that big pile of magazines that has been gathering beneath your bed. Something I love to do is to use scissors to snip out various sized and colored letters and put them together to form words or sentences. Try snipping letters from various sections: ads, the cover, or headlines for articles. When you put them all together, you will find a great retro aspect to your work.
For incorporating into collages, scrapbooks, or any other visual project using cute pictures and graphic designs you can also look through old magazines. The pages from fashion spreads as the wallpaper for my scrapbooks, which I like. They have little to no writing on them since they are always really themed. In case they happen to have some writing to show, the same can always be wrapped up in the garb of either a depiction or drawing pattern.
When creating your scrap books, you can use internet search engines to find appropriate graphics to include. I searched Google images for different terms like "baby girl", "it’s a girl" etc, when I started my daughter’s scrapbook. By using alternative sources, I found a good many appropriate things and saved money as well.
Using a search engine’s images page can help you find terms that you need for a project that you are working on. You will discover a lot of information that applies to your projects and you can print it out. Be careful! Some images may have copyrights on them, so I suggest only using these graphics for personal purposes. If it is for your own personal use it should not be an issue.
The lack of a printer should not stop you as they are readily available for your use at your local library or school for a small fee. Buying stickers and designs from art supply stores is costlier.
• If you are running a bit low on glue, it’s a little-known fact that you can make some yourself! Based on the amount of glue required, combine equal parts flour plus water. Until it turns into a pasty substance keep mixing it.
This type of glue should be used right after you make it, as it will go moldy if left out and unused. This must be left to dry totally after it is used; it is very good to use for any kind of paper project.
For a nice touch, add glitter to your glue and use it as paint for decorating items in your scrapbook.
Homemade modeling clay is one type of clay that can be used to make many crafts. You can make things in your kitchen with what you already have on hand instead of buying it at the grocery store. 1 cup flour, a tablespoon oil, 2 tablespoons cream of tarter, 1/2 cup salt and 1 cup water are used. Saute the combined ingredients in a large pan for a few minutes. Let it cool, and store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator until you plan to use it. Be sure the container is closed tightly or the clay will get hard!
Explore - You’ll find materials everywhere! You can showcase your creativity by making masks out of paper plates, embellishing them with markers and cutting eye holes with scissors. Perhaps you could transform an old pizza box, opened up, into a collage for your wall, decorating it with dyed dry pasta shapes which have been glued on.
You will have unlimited options for creative craft use at home by looking for unique items in closets or drawers. There is more than one use for something you may have saved and have never used.
