Handpainted Items: Gourds

There are so many ways you can finally get some use out of that huge magazine stack that’s been collecting under your bed. I favor cutting out letters in various colors and sizes and putting them together to spell out aphorisms and quotations. To get a cool retro look just cut out letters from different ads, articles and the cover and mix them together.

You can also look through old magazines for cute pictures and graphic designs to incorporate into collages, scrapbooks, or any other visual project. The pages from fashion spreads as the wallpaper for my scrapbooks, which I like. They are always really themed and have little to no writing on them. In case they happen to have some writing to show, the same can always be wrapped up in the garb of either a depiction or drawing pattern.

A really good idea when scrap-booking is to use Search Engines to find graphics. Using Technology can be great. Like the time I was starting my child’s scrapbook, I used Google images to find images that say "It’s a girl!" and "Baby Girl" and so on. By doing a little searching and looking around I was able to find materials to use and saved a lot.

Just search on different search engines images tool for terms related to the project you’re doing. You’ll find plenty of results which you can print out and use in your projects. Since some may have copyright on these graphics for personal purposes suggested by me for you. This should not be an issue at all if they are employed only for your own personal crafts.

If you don’t have a printer, you can print them out at your local library or school if you attend for a couple cents a sheet. You’ll save tons of money over buying designs and stickers from an art supply store.

Don’t worry if you don’t have any glue on hand you can always make some. While working on your project, decide how much glue is necessary and mix flour and water in equal measures. A pasty substance is the ultimate goal; mix it up until it gets to this consistency.

This type of homemade glue should be used immediately after mixing, otherwise it will become moldy if left out. This item is very well suited for paper projects; remember to leave it out to dry completely after use.

You can always add glitter to glue and then apply it like paint to decorate things.
