The cost of purchasing art supplies from retail outlets can be prohibitive for avid scrapbookers and crafters. To save on supplies and still be super unique and creative I’ve compiled all of the ways I’ve found.
Now that big stash of periodicals that has been accumulating under your bed-frame can be put to quite a number of uses. I really enjoy the method of cutting out various colors and sizes of letters to make quotes or sayings. Letters can be cut off the cover page, various advertisements and article titles. Mix them all together to establish a nice retro feel.
For incorporating into collages, scrapbooks, or any other visual project using cute pictures and graphic designs you can also look through old magazines. For my scrapbook background pages, I like to look for graphics in the fashion magazines. They have little to no writing on them since they are always really themed. In case they happen to have some writing to show, the same can always be wrapped up in the garb of either a depiction or drawing pattern.
A really good idea when scrap-booking is to use Search Engines to find graphics. When starting a scrapbook you can search online for ideas and themes such as "It’s a Girl" or "Baby Girl" I found a lot of cute stuff and saved!
Just search on different search engines images tool for terms related to the project you’re doing. You will discover a lot of information that applies to your projects and you can print it out. Because some graphics may be copyrighted, it’s a good idea to use anything that you find for personal purposes only. Till they are used within your crafts which are personal, that will not be a problem.
If you don’t have a printer, you can print them out at your local library or school if you attend for a couple cents a sheet. You’ll save tons of money over buying designs and stickers from an art supply store.
C: If you are running a bit low on glue, it’s a little-known fact that you can make some yourself! Mix an equal amount of flour and water, depending on how much glue you need. Mix it up until it turns into a pasty substance.
This type of glue will go moldy if let out and unused and so you should be used right after you make it. It’s good for paper projects and should be left out to dry completely after it’s used.
For a nice touch, add glitter to your glue and use it as paint for decorating items in your scrapbook.
4. Home made Modeling Clay provides a lot of cool crafts out there which call for some type of modeling clay. Instead of splurging on the stuff at the store, you can make it right in your kitchen with ingredients that you’ve probably already got. 1 cup flour, a tablespoon oil, 2 tablespoons cream of tarter, 1/2 cup salt and 1 cup water are used. After mixing every ingredient in a large pan, cook lightly for approximately 3 minutes. Once the mixture is at room temperature, place it in an airtight container, and store in the refrigerator until you are ready to use it. Clay will dry out if you fail to seal the container tightly.
• If you take a few minutes to observe what it around you, you may find some supplies you can use. Everything has a use, and you can make masks with scissors and crayons or markers or use a large pizza box for a collage, decorating it with dried, painted pieces of pasta you glue on.
Think openly about things around you. There are unlimited possibilities for crafts.
