As a fan of creating homemade crafts and a devoted scrapbooker, I am all too aware of the expense of buying art supplies from stores at retail prices. So, here I’ve compiled all of the ways I’ve found to save on supplies and still be super unique and creative.
• There are so many ways you can finally get some use out of that huge magazine stack that’s been collecting under your bed. One of my favorite pastimes is making sayings or quotations by cutting out letters of many different sizes and hues. Letters can be cut off the cover page, various advertisements and article titles. Mix them all together to establish a nice retro feel.
You can also look through old magazines for cute pictures and graphic designs to incorporate into collages, scrapbooks, or any other visual project. For my scrapbook background pages, I like to look for graphics in the fashion magazines. These universally possess strong themes, with hardly any (or no) writing. If they do have some writing, you can always cover it up with a picture or other design.
B: Use Search Engines to find Graphics: This is a really good idea when scrap-booking. When I began to put together a scrapbook for my daughter, I searched the internet for phrases like "baby girl" to find appropriate graphics to include. I found a lot of cute stuff and saved!
Using a search engine’s images page can help you find terms that you need for a project that you are working on. Plenty of results which you can print out and use in your projects will be found by you. Because some graphics may be copyrighted, it’s a good idea to use anything that you find for personal purposes only. This should not be an issue at all if they are employed only for your own personal crafts.
If you attend for a couple cents a sheet, you can print them out at your local library or school if you don’t have a printer. Buying stickers and designs from art supply stores is costlier.
• Have you got the glue? It is a hardly known fact that if you don’t have a glue, you might make some! Regardless of the amount of glue you need, mix equal parts flour and water to get the proper consistency. Until it turns into a pasty substance keep mixing it.
You should use the glue immediately after you finish making it because if you leave it out, it will become moldy. This item is very well suited for paper projects; remember to leave it out to dry completely after use.
Also, even if you do have glue, you can always add glitter for a nice touch. Use it as paint to decorate stuff.
4. Homemade Modeling Clay- Some type of modeling clay is quite often a necessary ingredient in many of the unique and interesting crafts available today. Instead of splurging on the stuff at the store, you can make it right in your kitchen with ingredients that you’ve probably already got. 1 cup flour, a tablespoon oil, 2 tablespoons cream of tarter, 1/2 cup salt and 1 cup water are used. Saute the combined ingredients in a large pan for a few minutes. Once the mixture is at room temperature, place it in an airtight container, and store in the refrigerator until you are ready to use it. If the container is not an air tight container you may lose your clay because it will dry up.
Explore - You’ll find materials everywhere! Masks can be made from paper plates using scissors and markers, a large wall collage can be made from a cut up pizza box or a decoration can be created from dry pasta that has been painted various colors.
Using your imagination as well as eyes and look around your house, when you are crafting. The options you get will be infinite.
